Vent screen damage:
The Health Department demands that screens be in place to cover
all crawl space openings. The screens must be made of 1/4" wire mesh material. The purpose
of these screens is to keep out vermin such as rats and mice. The
screens also keep cats, raccoons, opossums, and other animals from going
under your building to live, multiply, and die!
The cable company routinely damages these screens when they install
their equipment! They remove them completely and damage the inner
and outer frames. They use hammers and knock large holes in the wire
mesh to lead their wire through. I have had rats and mice enter my
units from under the building. Injured cats go under buildings to die.
The downtown area of the City of Long Beach has a large population
of wild cats, opossums, and raccoons. They come out at night
to forage for food. During the daytime they are living, and dying, under your house
because of the damaged screens!
